Parents Sponsorship Canada 2023 – What You Need to Know

Parent Sponsorship 2023

When Will Parent Sponsorship Open for 2023?

Beginning October 10, 2023, IRCC will be sending invitations to 24,200 prospective sponsors for parents and grandparents sponsorship. IRCC’s goal is to accept 15,000 completed applications for this intake cycle.

When will the invitations be sent out?

IRCC will be sending out invitations to sponsor parents or grandparents over a period of 2 weeks, beginning October 10, 2023.

It’s important to know that for the 2023 intake, IRCC will still be sending invitations to those who completed an interest to sponsor form for their parents or grandparents all the way back in 2020.

If you submitted an interest to sponsor your parents or grandparents in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022, make sure to check the email account you provided in 2020.

Those invited to apply for the 2023 intake will have to submit their applications electronically via the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.

How long will it take to process parental sponsorship?

As of September 2023, parent/grandparent sponsorship applications are taking about 23 months to process across Canada except for Quebec. If you are planning to sponsor your parents/grandparents to live in Quebec, it will take approximately 45 months to process.

This processing time includes how long it takes:

  • for the parent/grandparent to submit their biometrics
  • for your and your parent’s assessment
  • for IRCC to make sure your parent/grandparent meets the requirements

What If I Don’t Get an Invitation to Apply to Sponsor My Parents?

If you’d like your parents and grandparents to come to Canada, they may be eligible to apply for a SUPER VISA which could let them stay in Canada for 2 years and allows for multiple entries.

Parents and grandparents visiting on a super visa can also apply to extend their stay for an additional 2 years without having to leave Canada.
